Scabiosa Black Night

CULTURE. The Scabiosa flower contains medicinal juices used for treating skin diseases. According to medieval myth, this angered the devil and out of spite he took a bite from the flower. Hence the name ‘Devil's bit Scabious’ and its origin as a symbol of jealousy.

COLOUR EFFECT. This colour harmony reminds me of a series of black paintings by Mark Rothko in Houston’s famous Rothko Chapel. Aubergine and Ruby Red are so deep they become spacious. The stamen’s two light colours, Sand and Purple Pink, enhance the luminosity of the black. The colour range is warm and deep.
